These long days of F1 break have led fans—and drivers—to look for different ways to entertain themselves. Just today I started watching the 24 Hours of Nürburgring with Max Verstappen in the #3 Mercedes-AMG GT3, along with Jules Gounon, Dani Juncadella, and Lucas Auer. It’s different from F1 in many ways, but it feels more authentic now. Sadly, I started watching F1 at a time when regulations have made it somewhat more artificial and dependent on the machine, and have also meant risks for the drivers. Max himself has expressed dissatisfaction with this new F1, saying it’s “Formula E on steroids.”

I’m definitely not an expert when it comes to technicalities; I’m still learning, even if it’s a bit more lackluster than in the glory days. Now, Nürburgring, the most grueling circuit, represents an exciting challenge for everyone, racing in all weather conditions, day and night. Special mention goes to the magnificent underdog, the Dacia Logan. Many F1 fans have now turned to watching these races, and that’s good for broadening horizons.
I just finished Max’s portrait today and he has just finished his turn and leading the race. He is definitely from another world.
